I have a close family friend who is like an Aunt that lives here. This facility is located in a nice area of Tacoma. You can see the water and the Narrows Bridge from the building. It feels like a higher end hotel. There is flavored water in the lobby and the front desk woman was very helpful. I have been during the Friday “Happy Hour” a few times now and the activity girls made me feel welcome and shared future events with me. They went above and beyond. The food is amazing and the waitress accommodated my requests.

Immaculate building inside and out. The grounds are beautiful and the people who live here enjoy all of the outdoor space. (At least they have when I have been there) like watering the garden or sitting in the park. A lot of people here have dogs and it makes it feel like home. I wish I could live here! I have eaten here several times and the food is better than most restaurants I have been to (and I’m a foodie!). Helpful staff and lots of fun things for them to do. The person I know who lives here has become MORE active than when she lived on her own and it has helped her be more social and active.

My brother said she worked here a while ago. He said he loved it here & he brought his grandma here because he knew she would be taken care of. He said Colleen & Meghan put their hearts into the job & make sure the residents get the best care. He said Colleen & Meghan put a lot of time & effort into their caregivers to make sure they’re properly trained and not afraid to ask questions no matter what the time is. He said the only downside is the pay isn’t much, he said it’s over minimum wage, but not a lot. He said the benefits are amazing & the employees are highly valued & appreciated. I would definitely recommend to live here & work here. My brother was sad when he had to resign & move out of state.

My Mom lived at Merrill Garden in Tacoma for over 7 years & was well cared for every day. Mike has been a very caring manager. Both Colleen & Megan were very thorough nurses. Susan & Vonnie always made my mom feel very special. Carolyn keep a good eye on the accounts & the kitchen staff was always very polite. Virginia & the other office staff were great. Linda Lee was always someone we could count on. The housekeeping staff were wonderful! Thank you for taking a van to my moms memorial in November 2018. Sincerely, Dorothy Mills Family

They take advantage of old people. It’s unbelievable and the residents pay a lot of money to live here. My grandmother was robbed by staff. And turns out it is pretty common. Lots of residents have been robbed.They stole her wedding ring, a gold necklace her mother brought from Italy when she immigrated here, two gold chains and her pearls. And now they want to raise her rent. I think the problem is up top. Management needs to create a healthier work environment and pay employees better and create a culture that values the elderly instead of taking advantage of this vulnerable population. This is an epidemic— elderly people getting taken advantage of. Shame on you Merrill gardens.

Surprised to find there are not more reviews for Tacoma's Merrill Gardens, but I will testify that our Mom is approaching 90, and has spent the past three years at Merrill Gardens and claims her (independent living) lifestyle is like living on an elegant cruise ship that happens to remain in port forever.... wonderful staff, wonderful food, wonderful accommodations, and a wealth of activities, concerts, varied events. She does take note that her happiness is largely because she has the support of family that provide regular visits, and that is an element that is impossible for any senior living center to provide... but for us (Mom's family) Merrill Gardens provides us the freedom and comfort to know Mom is within a caring and very well managed facility that provides a wonderful home for Mom between our weekly visits.Neil Glenesk
