2 stars only because I got a refund. I got the $18.00 poke bowl, expecting it to fill me up and then some because you know 18.00 bucks. This bowl is depressingly small for its price (seriously the diameter of the bowl is about size of an uncooked burger patty), and not mention a whopping 11 pieces of bite sized tuna. I was very excited to try this place as a poke fanatic after hearing raving reviews, but was extremely disappointed as this is a classic over priced restaurant in Newport Beach. The rice was stale and undercooked, the fish was anything but fresh, and then seaweed salad was just gross. Would not recommend

Ceviche and guacamole were really tasty. Fish tacos and kid's fish sticks are the exact same thing in different presentations. The fish isn't fried or grilled, it is just slightly covered with burned pieces of breading. Not season at all. Miso soup was a cloudy liquid with absolutely no flavor whatsoever. I wouldn't come back, long line and not enough seating.

After standing 10 minutes in line to order your food, then scrambling to find an open seat, then constantly checking if your food is ready, you can finally sit down and enjoy your meal...That is, an overcooked, burnt fish. I mean, taking a fresh piece of fish and ruining it takes some serious skill.But worst of all, I got food poisoning. And that's an unforgivable issue.

Wow the line out this place was ridiculous!!! ❗️❕And the prices are out of this world! 💰💵💴But it is right on the beach🏝 and I’m sure the fish🐠 is fresh to death so makes sense... ish. Anyways I got the burrito🌯 because it looked like the best deal and it was honestly so good. The first bite was heavenly and so juicy and the thing is huge and filling and perfect. Avocado🥑 on point. There’s just barely any seating when you go at a busy time and it’s overpriced. Also the chips are way too expensive. I thought they were free. They should be free. Lol. But taste is definitely there!

We were waiting in line for 30 minutes about 2 people behind the front of the line at 6:45 and they said "We are not serving poke anymore because we have to clean it up" this was an hour and 15 minutes before closing! I recommend that you do not come here. Put a sign on your door that says "last poke orders made by 7"

This place was underwhelming to me. I got the original Bear Flag taco, very fresh and moist fish taco. The sauce was average. Also, got a blackened shrimp taco which was just okay. There is a line out the door, so maybe I am missing the gems on the menu. What I will say is everything is incredibly fresh. Wouldn't drive out of my way but would be up for giving it a second chance if I was in the neighborhood.

Do not understand all the great reviews...food was just ok, not great by any means. Rice was so bland and black beans tasted like they just opened a can of beans and warmed them up. Restaurant was cute and kinda trendy but food was flavorless. I will say the guacamole and sautéed vegetables were very tasty. I wouldn't go back...it's like a fancy Wahoos, but honestly, food at Wahoos is much more flavorful.

Had dinner here and was impressed by the unique style in both the decor and menu. There is a fair amount of entree and side dish options as well as premade, by the weight options such as ceviche that can be purchased. There is also a raw seafood selection for purchase. The beer and wine section is great and would go well with many of the menu choices.

Been back multiple times, everything has been amazing. They catch the fish that morning and everything is fresh. Loved the salmon poke! The fish tacos are all great. Get extra Tommy Sauce and mix it with Tapatio, the best. The only negative I can think of is that beer/wine has to stay inside. Other than that, it's incredible. Worth waiting in line for.

I noticed myself that I've been coming back to Bear Flag more and more. Why settle for California Fish Grill and others alike if you can have real fresh fish for about the same price. Their fish sandwich is easily one of the best I had. I also recommend fish taco and poki with side of chips. Now that they moved to new location, there are more parking and seatings.
