A wonderful place to visit so many historical artifacts can be found here. When visiting this place I am so recommend to buy a museum card as there are multiple museum's inside Residenzschloss (Dresden castle) and in nearby areas. The museum is situated in the heart of the Dresden also public transport like tram can be used to get there. The Museum is beautiful and you can get a audio device to get to know more details about certain artifacts in audio by simply entering the artifact code Number.A must Visit place in Dresden.
Feedback:
Sadly the Green Vault has been robbed before I could even visit it. The Security system must be too primitive as the perpetrators could just break in using rocks to steal the jewels. Overall still managed to see the remaining exhibition but would give it a 5-stars rating as its not complete without the stolen jewels. I hope they catch the culprits and restore back this exhibition.
Feedback:
A very large and varied collection of jewelry. The collection of Saxon electors and kings has more than 4,000 unique works of art. In the new halls of the Green Vaults, nearly 1,100 pieces of jewelry are represented, about 3,000 items are on display in historical halls. Due to limited space, the museum’s exposition includes only the most famous and valuable masterpieces of jewelry. The name "Dragon Treasure Cave" would be very suitable for this museum. Although everything looks very beautiful and interesting here, the "green room" itself with its jewels on display is really amazing. Yes, you must see this amazing place. You can take an audio guide in different languages.
Feedback:
I didn't event know what to expect. There were thousands of treasures to view. So many beautiful pieces. I enjoyed the jewels, coral, and amber pieces the most. It takes a long time to view specifically in the new vault. The historic vault was fine but I found more amazing things in the new vault. It was a lot to see and did get tiring. You can take photos (no flash). I felt there was enough space and clear labels. I don't think younger kids would appreciate it. I am so glad I did this! Would recommend.

Our ticket included the entry into new green vault (historic or old vault was to be separately purchased). And it was well worth the price. It is situated inside the residenz-schloss (Dresden castle) along with other museums like Turkish chamber, coin cabinet etc. The vault itself is an organized display of ornate, opulent historical objects, gifts, discoveries, each with short description underneath and helpful audio guides, to be collected at the entrance (included in the ticket). Typical of a historic museum, it sets you back in that era. I thoroughly enjoyed and you do need a solid few hours to explore this collection.
Feedback:
An absolutely overwhelming collection stemming primarily from August the Strong. The Old Green Vault is a series of rooms with different themes. There's an ivory collection, a bronze collection, gemstones, golden objects and so much more. The New Green Vault is more of the same and has the famous green diamond. This is a remarkable collection and is a must see. Don't forget about the combination tickets, which will save you a lot of money if you plan to see several museums. No photos were permitted.
Feedback:
Mind-boggling exhibit of exquisite artwork crafted over the years by numerous artisans. Much of this museum in the castle was spared the destruction encountered in Dresden during the war. There are several rooms containing artwork of a specific kind, situated on walls and stands. Each room is totally different than the room before and after it. There is so much art that it becomes difficult to take it all in and really appreciate the artistry. Don't try to touch the art exhibits or lean over the railings - there are extremely sensitive sensors that will trip alarms! There are also sentinels posted throughout each room to monitor guests actions. It is a wonderful museum that will keep one occupied for a couple hours or more. Don't miss it!
Feedback:
If there is a must-see attraction in Dresden, it would have to be the Green Vault located at the Royal Palace in the city centre. Opening hours 8am to 6pm daily (9-6pm on Saturdays). Entry price is €12 per person and includes an audioguide. Note: Tickets are separate and different for entry into the rest of the Royal Palace. Further, they are for specific entry times only. No cameras, bags or coats are allowed inside the viewing rooms. There are coin deposit lockers that can be used to store these items. The Green Vault is cited as being the largest collection of treasures in Europe, It is an exquisite collection by King Augustus II from the first half of the 18th century. Much of which is on display in the handful of rooms. The audioguide is very helpful, detailing highlight treasures as well as describing facets of each room's colour, decorative scheme and historical purpose. Visits take around 30-45 minutes to explore the rooms and to fully listen to the audio guide. No photography is allowed so the crowds seem to move around at a fair and predictable pace. There is also a controlled entry, allowing in only a certain number of visitors at a time. As such, the rooms avoid becoming overly crowded and visitors are given fair opportunity to see whichever pieces they like up close. In the end, I felt that the Green Vault was managed well, providing a memorable opportunity to view Augustus The Strong's rich collection of treasures. It was disappointing to not be able to take pictures but completely understandable given the delicate nature of the possessions on display and the need to crowd control. This is a place that I would gladly return to during future visits to Dresden.
Feedback:
Get the combo ticket for the historic green vault + the other exhibits. There is a self guided audiotour for the green vault BUT it also works for the other exhibits too so don't make my mistake and return it too early. Don't skip the tower either - it's a little hard to find (out the doors near the coat check and around the courtyard) but you climb into the tall clocktower for tremendous views of the city!
Feedback:
With the dissolution of many empires and monarchies around Europe, it has become almost tradition that palaces are turned into historical museums. The Royal Palace here in Dresden is no different and when they rebuilt the palace, it become designated as a museum. Actually, it was 5 museums including the Green Vault, the largest collection of treasures in all of Europe.
