It’s always nice to see Uncle Nelson at Da Kine’s Plate Lunches! Hands down the most authentic tastes of Hawaiian plate lunches outside of the islands! Sometimes Uncles Nelson will make desserts like Haupia (coconut cream custard that can cut like jello) and Hawaiian Butter Mochi! So delicious and so special and so ono when he makes it! Hope you get to try some! Aloha!

Great food and great staff! They were super nice and have a classic Hawaiian menu. The restaurant is very homey and shows off its heritage. There are daily specials and discounts for college students. Pictured below is the Kalua pork plate. I asked for a side salad that came with a sesame dressing but you can also choose the house mac salad if that's more your speed. It also came with two scoops of rice so come hungry!

We ordered Kalbi Ribs, Kalua Pig, Teriyaki Beef and Spam Musubis! We really enjoyed the food at Da Kines. Food was flavorful and theres no need to worry about fighting cholesterol because the food was not floating in grease. It's super clean for HI food (not greasy). Eating food from Da Kines brought us back to HI. We shall be back to try other food on their menu. I am excited to try the Lau Lau special. We hope to visit earlier so that we can score some!

I remember dining at Da Kine's when it was in Point Loma and I just moved to San Diego. I can't remember the food then but glad I came to this new location. First, parking here is historically tight. This is not a huge restaurant but good enough to order and sit down. We were a party of 13. The workers were gracious enough to put a few tables together to accommodate our large party. With that said, service was good. Food: Ordered the Lau Lau special with Chicken long rice and No Poi. The lau lau was just ok for me. I wish it was a little more moist and more hawaiian salt or something. The chicken long rice was delicious. I ate it all. I also had the Kalbi. Oh my goodness! This was the highlight for me. It was cooked to perfection and the flavors reminded me of Home. Overall, I will definitely return and I can't wait to have the Kalbi again. It's mouth watering.

This place is the best! We were so excited when they opened up in our area. We've been eating from this establishment when they were located in the beach area off Mission Blvd and also at Liberty Station. The food is exactly how we remembered it, generous portions and favorable. The Kalua Pig is outstanding as is the Chicken Katsu and the Teriyaki beef and chicken plates. Full catering is also available. Nelson, the owner, is the nicest individual you will ever meet. Very warm and personable. The place is a keeper!

I highly recommend Dakines!! They provided food for the rehearsal dinner for my son's wedding and the food was absolutely delicious!! The service was impeccable and Nelson was very accommodating to every request I made! The delivery was exactly when I wanted it at 6:00pm on the dot! It was the best chicken katsu I ever had! The noodle salad was delicious! It helped to make this special occasion for my son's wedding rehearsal dinner even more special! Thanks again!

Great food and excellent service. Very impressed that they setup the food in the warmers and instructed us in how to keep everything warm and ready for the guests, and did not just place them on the counter.
