I was surprised that there were no reusable cups or even utensils here—when eating in-house you have to use plastic forks unless you brought your own. Everything they sell is also wrapped in layers of... more

Nice laid back bakery with a lot to offer. Nice outside seating area (dog friendly & they have treats) with room for little ones to roam. Inside sitting area as well. Plenty of sweets to choose from and hearty sandwiches. Great hours & friendly service. Our favorite is their bacon lettuce avocado & tomatoes on a croissant (pictured) and their freshly squeezed oj is crazy good.
Feedback:
Neighborhood bakery and breakfast spot. The baked goods are pretty fabulous. Earl Grey shortbread rounds. Cookies and delicious breads and rolls. One of the few places in San Diego to get Pecan Sticky Buns like my mom used to make. They have a little attached parking lot but it's always FULL. Worth the walk though 😁 Real baked goods and their own line of shirts, cups and assorted knick knacks makes this a great place to shop for things a bit out of the ordinary.
Feedback:
This place is such a hidden gem, have walked by several times but not stopped in to eat. The coffee is quite good one of the best mocha I've had. Was hungry so got the southern comfort breakfast and it was so big I didn't finish it. Service was friendly and able to answer questions. They had compostable forks and spoons. I was to try all the deserts next time I come.
Feedback:
Love this place!! Their croissants with various toppings are insanely good. The shop has an open prep area and it's neat to see the pros honing their passion into baked goodies. The staff is super friendly and attentive. They also carry beer and kombucha as well as other goodies. Just an enjoyable place to enjoy a cup of coffee with baked goodies.
Feedback:
This is a really vibey and unique spot! They have a huge variety of baked goods, some really good sandwiches, and even beer and cider! I tried their "Plain Jane," an egg and cheddar cheese sandwich on a brioche bun. Slightly bland because it comes with a patty of scrambled eggs and not a sunny-side-up egg, but definitely fresh. You can spice it up with the little sriracha or tapatio packets they have. Also very good with mustard. My friend had a vegetarian sandwich that was very tasty. Their coffee was really tasty. Be careful if you want decaf...I'd suggest a single decaf espresso shot in an Americano, it was fairly strong stuff for decaf. Their cranberry shortbread cookies are some of the best shotbread cookies I've ever had. The layout of the store is really quirky and fun. Their outside area is super cute and loungy as well. They have free wifi and a lot of places to plug-in. Highly recommend.

Black market is a favorite of mine when it’s a beautiful day (which is very often in SD). There’s something special about studying and working outside and Blackmarket’s outdoor area is great especially when I want to bring my dog with me. (If you own a dog and are particular about people, children and other dogs being around your dog, please leave your dog at home because it is very busy outside. Don’t be THAT dog parent.)The coffee and tea is great! I prefer the Chai Latte. The Hey Arnold! is a good Arnold Palmer but there is a bit of a weird tartness to it. But the lemonade is great because of that tart flavor. And of course the baked good are amazing as are their sandwiches. The members only is a favorite of mine.
Feedback:
A friend recommended it as his favorite coffee place. It’s dark horse coffee, which you can get directly from the horse’s mouth, but it also has amazing baked goods. They have a bunch of packaged stuff as well as stuff in a case and various flavors of loaves of bread. My iced latte was about as strong as I’ve had, and the coffee flavor was excellent. The fruit tart was good, fresh, cool, nothing unusual or surprising. The crust was fairly dense. There’s some seating inside and more outside, sort of like a beer garden. They have a small bar counter by the taps, and they serve a few beers and hard kombucha on tap. I saw people working on laptops inside and out, and it seemed like a good work space, not too loud and with distinct seating to have one’s own workspace.

It was the first time to visit this place. It was a very nice experience. The place is cozy, contemporary and clean. The service attentive and friendly. The pastries I got were amazingly fresh and delicious.Perhaps their prices for tarts and cookies are a little high.
Feedback:
When you walk in you are greeted in a positive and friendly way. What great vibes the entire staff gives here!!The food is great and inventive.Served in one of the coolest indoor and outdoor spots I've ever seen here, tucked away in a really convenient neighborhood. Nothing beats fresh baked bread and pastries made right in open view in the meticulously clean kitchen area. They even invite you to stay awhile with a selection of board games and comfortable seating.
Feedback:
I would give this place 5 stars for food and atmosphere. The outdoor patio has improved greatly although it’s right next to a noisy intersection. But as a regular the customer service lacks so much. This is a local establishment and I love local businesses, but the customer service is very uncaring about the customers. Even just remembering to bring out an item, saying thank you or other little things that would make this place so much better. Thank you Alison for turning this experience around. Still one of my favorite local bakeries : ) much improved customer service experience. You took the time to listen to me and treat me with goodies!!
