I just heard it has closed. Not a big loss. I did spend a lot of time at It's Tops in the early 1980s. In the heyday when I would visit a line outside on weekends would be like an hour wait. The mother, father, daughter and son all worked there. Food was great and cheap. Now from my last visit which was a few years ago, expensive and food very bland. I'm surprised it did not close years ago.

Yes, folks these is a real ole fashion diner. This place has been open since 1935. It's a hidden treasure right here in San Francisco.Let the photos speak for themselves. I ordered two eggs over easy and they were spot on. The onion rings were perfect. The waitress even asked if I wanted ketchup or ranch dressing for them.As you can see from the photos the basket of onion rings was huge. One other person was in there and he ordered one of there burgers, o my God. The thing was giant. The place is usually super busy. Why wouldn't it be? The food is fantastic, the service is beyond excellent, and the price are equal to the both the food and service.Folks, I usually don't leave tips, but I did this time. So, come discover this hidden jewel of ours here in San Francisco.

Amazing little 50’s dinner. Came in on a slow monday brunch and was very impressed. The waitress was nice and the food was very good. The ingredients seemed simple and real.I thought the prices were reasonable for the city till I saw the proportions; they’re huge! I got a bowl of split pea soup and my friend got a plate of eggs and potatoes w/ a pancake on the side. Definitely a great deal, be sure to take a friend and split a plate if you have a small appetite. 8/10 highly recommended.

Was there on sunday. Got pancakes with raspberries and blueberries including a strawberry milkshake for a reasonable flair. The diner itself has a nice flair of the 50s. Only one bad thing : the icecubes at the coke where with a lot of chlorine which causes a really high chlorine taste on the coke. The portion was huge!

I can see the trolleys cross market, and hear the voices of the Billies. The all wood interior and painting style recalls my childhood and growing up in the area. The pre Who era is still available and my food was prepared with the right char on the burger and after I have a recommended milkshake. I gave it five stars for maintaining the experience people would go out for and still do.

Feedback:

Charming little place with very friendly staff.Food was exactly what you'd expect from a traditional American diner. Taste wise it's nothing special, but then again it doesn't need to be. What makes you walk out with a smile on your face from this place is the friendly staff and the overall down to earth atmosphere. Check it out if you are in the area; it's like a bit of a time machine on a Sunday morning that takes you back to a simpler time.

Found this place at 1AM the other night. Breakfast all day/night. One of the RARE places in SF that's good and open late late late. No rush on a Thursday night. Hit the spot. I can't remember the last time I had pancakes this good and at 1AM no less. Also had a malted vanilla shake which was very tasty. Really friendly service. I look forward to trying everything else on the menu.

Expensive and nothing special. Coffee was terrible . Espresso was ok. They do make their own maple syrup. Didn't order anything requiring syrup, but I did taste it as, on the rare occasion I do use syrup, real maple is the only way to go. They do have a lot of cool historical San Francisco pictures and time piece artifacts that they acquired over their length of operation.

It's Tops is my favorite SF diner. It has all the classic diner foods, prepared better than other diners, in a cozy setting. The booths are classic style and each has a jukebox. Counter seating is also available. My personal favorite foods are the stuffed waffles and malt milkshakes, but I haven't found anything I thought was a miss. There's usually (always?) only one server, so don't expect lightning quick service, by that's why you come with friends. Also, takeout is an option. They have beer, wine, and soju cocktails. Convenient location, great food, open late. You can't go wrong!
