I began the home PV process in the Spring of 2019. From the start, the IPS rep was knowledgeable and courteous. We went through several iterations of panel quantity and placement in addition to the addition of a battery backup system. They made the process so easy! The installers were very professional, including taking great care to not damage my brand new roof! Everything went very smoothly. We decided on the whole house battery backup and are very glad we did. Since the system went live in mid-October, we have had two outages. The system automatically switched over with about a 3 second delay, and allowed us to carry on with our activities.I highly recommend Independent Power Systems!

Great company. They provided excellent customer support from prior to the sale decision making, to support after installation was completed. Highly recommended.

I'm currently frustrated with the responses from this company. I bought an expensive home with their system installed. At that time, they put in writing that my system would work once the electrical was completed. Based on this, I paid them thousands of dollars. So, I completed the electrical as they instructed me to do and then they came out afterwards to say that not only does my system not work but that they are refusing to work on my system. That was after months of trying to communicate with them. This was a huge investment. This company appears not to stand by their word or their equipment. :(

IPS installed a 4.5kW SunPower PV system on my roof in late 2006, and it's consistently generated its design specification of an average of 550 kWhr/month since then, every year for the past 13 years, literally maintenance- and incidence-free. After increasing my home's efficiency (mostly by replacing incandescent bulbs with LEDs for 1/10th their power cost), my home now uses sufficiently less electricity to power my electric car, so in addition to satisfying all my electric-power needs for the first ten years with the rooftop array, I'm now actually driving on sunlight too.Though I'm always happy to see IPS employees - they were great to work with during the design and installation of my system 13 years ago - I'm ecstatic I haven't had to call them out to deal with anything associated with my array since then. Mine really has been an install, power-up, and forget experience with their SunPower PV technology. I couldn't possibly be happier.

More than six years ago IPS installed an 8 kW SunPower 20-year lease. They removed and re-installed the panels (insurance paid) so that we could get a new roof after hail damage. A wire on one panel had worked loose, so they replaced that panel. As with any home improvement project, get competitive bids in writing from multiple installers. Make it very clear exactly what you want. At the time, IPS was able to offer a pre-paid lease at an unbeatable price. In the states where they operate, always get bids from IPS as well as others. Nowadays in this area I would continue to suggest Namaste as a competitive bidder, as well as Tesla Energy (formerly Solar City).

Very poor getting quotes and answering e-mails. Cannot deliver a quote on dates they say they would. Very poor communications!

Big on selling the customer expensive solar equipment but afterwards, indifferent follow-through with service. Be prepared to be charged at $136 an hour just for traveling time to diagnose an issue.

IPS is dedicated to the craft of solar. They are a solid partner and their level of quality is second to none. They have been doing this for 20 years! Highly recommended.

I just got our 6.8 kW Sun Power system installed by IPS. Prior to choosing IPS I interviewed other solar suppliers and installers that do a lot of work in Boulder county. Let me say, I am very particular. I also do my homework and expect the professionals I'm working with to be the experts. There was no comparison between the other companies and IPS. From Ben to Aron to Bryan and Joe, these guys love solar. They provide exceptional customer service and the highest level of detailed and timely communication. They are punctual, showed concern for the aesthetics of my home and took care to leave our home better than they had found it. I literally could go on and on about how impressed I have been with IPS. IPS was an excellent value and having the peace of mind knowing that these guys have been in Boulder over 20 years gives me great comfort in knowing I will get every bit of what I expect out of my solar experience!!!Nice Job Independent Power SystemsOne other note, I rarely take the time to post reviews but these guys deserve it!!

Feedback:

We got our system with IPS during the first round of the Climate Smart Program last year. There were a few things that really stood out about IPS compared to other companies that we looked at. First, the sales people, installers, engineers, etc... all work for IPS. They didn't hire contractors that were busy with other projects, so our project was done in a very timely manner. Their communication was phenomenal. As small business owners, my husband and I really strive to provide a great service for our customers. In our opinion one large component to that is communication. If my sales representative couldn't answer my question (which was rare), I would send an e-mail or place a phone call and have my question answered with 24 hours - most of the time it was less.IPS helped us through all of the paperwork for the Climate Smart program. They answered all of our questions, sent us the proper documentation, and made sure everything was submitted before the deadlines. One story:One day in late July, we came home to find out that we didn't pass the final inspection because the distance of our fuse box from the ground was not up to the newer code standards (our house is older). That night, my husband and I went to Lowe's and bought the materials to build a couple of simple steps below the fuse box. The next morning at 8:30am IPS was there with materials to build steps to pass the inspection. We didn't realize that it wasn't our job to take care of that detail until installer from IPS called us at work to ask us where the steps came from. The inspector came back 2 days later and we were able to turn on the system August 1st 2009. We have been enjoying our Sun Power Solar Panels ever since!P.S. We have referred two other people in our neighborhood rave about their experiences with IPS as well.
