Feedback:
My mother in law has lived here for over two years. They allowed her to come in at a lower rate of apx $2000 a month. Then when we got a notice that they were raising her rent by $60 I politely inquired as to whether that was correct as I was told by social security it wasn't given she gets SSA/SSI and a facility isn't allowed to take every penny (her diapers alone cost about $80 a month). At that point they sent us a nasty letter that if we didn't like it we could leave, and a month later they moved her to a lower functioning unit without alerting us to this first. They moved her in the middle of the night. The nurse called to say my mother in law was upset and the staff didn't understand why the director of the facility had moved her as there was no justification on a medical level. This was against her wishes and ours since They had no reason for doing this except they now wanted to give her room to someone who could pay more. The director confirmed this and said it's within their right, and that they can get people who will pay more for her shared room (they moved her roommate to the lower functioning ward too for this reason). To move someone to a lower unit means when it's not necessary means less mental stimulation and less community contact. Also the move is very hard on someone with dementia. We spoke to several staff who stated they also objected and hadn't been consulted and didn't think it was a good idea. We contacted the Ombudsman to ask them for help who said they would go in and discuss with them and now just a month later we get a notice they are raising her rent by $1000 more dollars so now it will be over $3100 a month which they know she can't afford. She doesn't do well with moves. Mean while she has been a good patient, without behavioral problems and the staff love her and tell us she is one of their favorite patients. The nursing staff overall have been very good here and we have felt my mother in law was in good hands but we feel that the owners and executive staff are money hungry individuals who see this as the big business it is and are obviously no longer putting the best interests of the patients above all else. She has had a shared room this whole time but it's not enough to get $4500 to $5000 for a room per month (not sure what the room mate was paying). Now they want twice that much, PER ROOM.
