There's an easy luxurious vibe that permeates Cafe Monarch. Once you've made your reservation online, the staff quickly calls you to gather important information regarding events being celebrated or if you have dietary concerns. Upon arriving, you're cared for in the most natural and unassuming way possible. Certainly the decor and the menu (and price) indicate this as a fine dining experience, but there remains a sense that the staff truly want you to have a good time. They want you to love your experience. That said, the place isn't stuffy, either. With vaulted ceilings, tile floors, and plenty of indoor seating (there's a patio, too), the place is almost a little loud with boisterous conversation and laughter. It's all high end, but is comfortable in its own skin and the sense of relaxation is welcome. The prix fixe menu actually feels like it has lots of options. Both of us ordered off the vegetarian menu and each of the four courses contained options that forced us to make some difficult choices. Of particular note was the spanakopita, which was glorious, and the vegetarian lasagna, which was unlike (in all the right ways) any lasagna I've ever tasted. The oyster mushroom stack was also unique and delicious. It must be stated that the sommelier, Wesam, is a cut above. His true passion to deliver the most generous and easy care to our table was memorable and ingratiating. A casual question about the tomato marmalade on one of the courses from my fiancee resulted in his hand-writing the recipe down for us before the end of dessert. Who does that? The price might be concerning, but if you're in the market for a dinner you will likely tell everyone you know all about, then it's time to splurge on Cafe Monarch. It will likely become the place you go to when you have milestones to celebrate. Because ultimately, this place is one of the only places you'll find in the valley that knows how to design a genuine celebratory night.
