Feedback:

I feel like I'm in a decent position to be reviewing Homewatch Caregivers, as our family has been using their services for over three years now. As our mother aged and dealt with her medical conditions (most importantly Parkinson's), she increasingly needed more assistance with performing daily activities such as going to the market, going to medical appointments, etc. She enjoyed still being able to live alone, so having a caregiver come in a few times a week made this possible (since none of us kids live in Nevada). During one visit from the caregiver, my mother didn't answer the door. The caregiver went to the office of the apartment complex and notified the manager, who came to my mother's apartment and opened it. To their shock, she was on the floor and completely incoherent. She had had a stroke and had a severe UTI (look it up if you aren't familiar with what these can do to seniors). She was unable to press her medical alert button hanging around her neck, she was so incoherent. It's quite possible that the caregiver's visit saved her life. Fast forward to now, where our mom is comfortably living full time in a nursing facility in the Las Vegas area. It took several months for her to achieve some sort of stability from the aforementioned incident. But once she did, we again began using the services of Homewatch. Five days a week, a caregiver comes in and helps her eat, helps her organize her closet and drawers (since she's unable to do this anymore), takes her outside in her wheelchair for a stroll around the block, takes her to medical appointments, and generally is a friendly face to see when family isn't there. Essentially, the caregiver provides a level of personalized service that nursing facilities are not equipped to handle. It was a great relief then, and it is especially now, to know that someone is stopping in to see her that has the family's best interests in mind.We have had probably a dozen different caregivers from Homewatch over time. Generally speaking, they've all been very good at what they do and have had good dispositions. As one might expect, there is a better fit with some than others. This is completely to be expected and it's not a negative thing. We have made it a point to meet all our caregivers, and to make sure our mother is happy with them. We've been in a good rhythm for a long time now. Lastly, we have established good communications between Homewatch and the family. This is important to make sure there are no surprises. If one establishes what's expected up front, I've found that surprises are dramatically reduced.
